Play Day!!

Well here I am still, despite not having posted for ages! The shed has been up and fully functioning since May, we spent ages painting the breeze block walls, (not an enjoyable job) I had a vynal  floor put in, and best of all a sink unit. It was looking very spacious, that was until I put all of my 'stuff' into it! now it looks like a working space, but not one that the glossy home magazines would be very impressed with! (Having a few problems at the moment getting images posted but will get that sorted soon)

Yesterday, the shed fulfilled its purpose, I had a crafting day, the only intention was to have a play with different materials, with no planned outcome. My friend Carrie-Anne arrived with a big box of crafting toys, including her melting pot, lots of beads, and a whole load of creativity. we spent most of the day dipping things into the melted resin. starting with beads, but getting more adventurous with wire, seed pods, fabrics, yarns. Angelina fibre worked surprisingly well, creating an iridescent sheen under the surface.
It could be quite dangerous, when two or more creative people occupy a space, especially when that space is filled to the brim with a life time collection of making materials!!
At 3.30 the girls came home from school and immediately got stuck in. I think they made twice as many beads in an hour as we did in the whole day. They loved it. In the end they had made a necklace each, and have both begged for Carrie to come back again!!
I was also shown how to make stitch markers, from some very cute owl beads I found at Woolfest.
Lots of crafting, lots of chatting, lots of coffee and jaffa  cakes. Thanks Carrie, had the best day!!

And so they build

So it begins. Work started on Tuesday and I have been keeping an excited eye on the progress. Thanks to all this good weather they have been able to crack on with the work. The shape of my workspace is gradually being exposed, I can actually visualize where everything will go (O.K. I have drawn up a plan of all the things that are going to be in there and plotted them in a graph, but that's just sensible, right? - or am I getting carried away?). I have a window and the doors are ready to go in, the electric has been wired up, and the roof is going on today!!

The walls came tumbling down!

This was on Wednesday, Thursday the water pipe and drainage for the sink, was put in, and the electric cables were put in place.
On Friday work came to a halt. there was a Royal wedding going on, and a double bank holiday weekend. (for the record, the weather has been glorious, so whenever anyone complains about miserable bank holiday weather, remember this weekend!!)
We made cup cakes and decorated them with flags, then settled down to watch the big event. Just like the old garage this creation got demolished too. (the French flag was made by Paul the republican, he also made a scull and cross bones one too, then went out to play golf for the day!!)

Making room.

Where to begin? well, we moved house about two years ago. my old house had a reasonably sized work space, at the bottom of the garden, but the house became to small for our growing family. as much as it pained me to leave my workshop behind I knew the move was necessary. we didn't go far, just around the corner ( in fact I can still see my old house if I hang out of the back bedroom window!!)  so nothing much changed. Except that is for my work space. There are out buildings, but they are just too small to house my weaving loom. there is a prefab garage but it is cold and damp. I have had to set up my loom in our bedroom, which although I have a very tolerant husband, is not an ideal situation. I feel for my two girls who are quite used to seeing balls of wool lumps of fleece, and all sorts of strange weaving equipment lying around the house, this to them is normal!!
Things are about to change, The best thing is there is room to expand, and I have been clinging on to this dream since we got here. And now with money saved in the bank and a builder on the way, it IS going to happen. The old garage  is going to be demolished tomorrow and I have been told the new garage with insulated workshop will be going up next week.
